Acculturation and language proficiency have been found to be related both in terms of second language acquisition (Schumann, 1978, 1986) and socio-psychological adjustment in intercultural communication (Ward, Bochner, & Furnham, 2001). However, predictions about the effect of a particular strategy on success differ, assimilation creates the most favorable conditions for SLA and serves as integration for general well-being.
