Abstract

This study examines the vocabulary assessment methods used by teachers to assess students' vocabulary in secondary schools and how the results of using vocabulary assessment methods affect students' vocabulary skills.  aimed at determining.  This study uses a qualitative description where data collection is entered into a Google form and uses a questionnaire distributed to 10 English language teachers from different schools in North Sumatera.  This study revealed that vocabulary assessment strategies used by teachers during the exam were word matching (40%), multiple choice (30%), fill in the blank (20 %) and word recognition (10%).  Memorization, puzzle games, paper forms, short words, reading and comprehension, question and answer techniques, conversation, oral tests and written tests are used.  The study shows that the vocabulary assessment strategy is very useful in meeting students' goals and 60% satisfactory and 40% average for student knowledge.
